THE TESTING OF ENTREPRENEUR INTENTION MODEL OF SMK STUDENTS IN SPECIAL REGION OF YOGYAKARTA: DISCUSSION AND IMPLICATION

Entrepreneurship intention in accordance with the basic model of theory of planned behavior was formed by entrepreneurship attitude, subjective norm, self efficacy, and tendency to take risk. Individual attitude toward entrepreneurship was with the perception that to start business was an interesting thing, entrepreneurship view compared with the other jobs, and success in entrepreneurship formed students’ intention to be entrepreneurs. The more positive students’ attitude was, the higher their entrepreneurship intention was. The role of subjective norm toward intention was because individuals obeyed view or someone else’s role in entrepreneurship. The higher the social support, others’ support, or family role conviction in starting business, support conviction in business from parents, support conviction from friends in business were, the higher the entrepreneurship intention was. Besides attitude and subjective norm, self efficacy was a condition where individuals believed that behavior to be entrepreneurs was easy or could be done. Self efficacy also had constraint with real condition and experience such as economic condition or individual financial capital, instrument readiness in entrepreneurship, so self efficacy less had a role in explaining entrepreneurship behavior directly or through entrepreneurship intention. This thinking was supported by Azjen & Fishbein who explained that actual behavior control influenced behavior control (self efficacy) and behavior.
According to Zhao, the value of uncertainty avoidance would obstruct innovation because avoiding innovation that produced something new but uncertain. Individuals who were brave to take risk would tend to be entrepreneurs because felt confident and able to start and develop business and able to avoid business failure. Individuals who tended to be brave to take risk had self confident in facing business constraints, so had intention to start or develop business. Empirically, this thing was supported by research result of Zhao et al.,, Zhao et al., , Hmieleski & Corbett who found that the tendency to take risk influenced self efficacy and research result of Segal et al, Zhao et al., and Raijman who found that the tendency to take risk influenced directly toward entrepreneurship intention. Entrepreneurship demanded the courage to take risk and brave to face constraints as consequences of the things to do and if fail individuals did not look for reasons of the met obstacles or constraints. Individuals, who had positive risk tolerance perception, tended to have entrepreneurship intention. Several research found the relationship between the tendency to take risk and entrepreneurship intention.
Wholly, structural equality conceptual model that was arranged based on goodness of fit fulfilled model fit that meant in accordance with empirical condition of entrepreneurship intention, specifically the conclusion that the tendency to take risk influenced self efficacy significantly was obtained. That influence had positive characteristic that meant the higher the tendency to take risk was, the higher the self efficacy was. On the contrary, the lower the tendency to take risk was, the lower the self efficacy was. Entrepreneurship attitude influenced entrepreneurship intention significantly. That influence was positive that meant the higher the entrepreneurship attitude, the higher the entrepreneurship intention. On the contrary, the lower the entrepreneurship attitude was, the lower the entrepreneurship intention was. Subjective norm influenced entrepreneurship intention significantly. That influence was positive that meant the higher the subjective norm, the higher the entrepreneurship intention. On the contrary, the lower the subjective norm was, the lower the entrepreneurship intention was. This variable was dominant to influence entrepreneurship intention compared with the other variable. Self efficacy influenced entrepreneurship intention significantly. That influence was positive that meant the higher self efficacy, the higher entrepreneurship intention. On the contrary, the lower self efficacy was, the lower entrepreneurship intention was.
Based on research result, practically it is recommended for the government to develop entrepreneurship behavior of SMK students through entrepreneurship trainings. The main factor that needs attention is self efficacy by giving attitude development provision in responding opportunity and tolerating risk in business. Self efficacy can be improved by giving knowledge provision and entrepreneurship skills. Besides, this research result can also give contribution for educational world especially entrepreneurship education in high school. Educational pattern needs to plant innovation and creative value in responding opportunity, creating opportunity, and skills and entrepreneurship knowledge such as business establishment and managing business.
